2017 Juniorate Conference
From 22 June to 6 July, Sant’Anselmo was pleased to welcome 30 participants to the 2017 Juniorate Conference.
Benedictine monks in simple vows and their formation directors from around the world were invited to Sant’Anselmo for a period of reflection on their commitment to celibacy. The 30 participants arrived from monasteries in the USA (Saint Meinrad Archabbey, Saint Vincent Archabbey, Saint Anselm Abbey, Saint Bernard Abbey, Saint Gregory Abbey, Saint Leo Abbey, Saint John’s Abbey), Korea (Waegwan Abbey) Hungary (Győr Abbey, Pannonhalma Abbey) Austria (Kremsmünster Abbey, Melk Abbey) England (Downside Abbey), France (Abbaye de Fleury), Spain (Abadia de Montserrat), Israel (Dormition Abbey), and Brazil (Mosteiro de São Bento, Vinhedo; San Paulo)
Br. John Mark Falkenhain, a Benedictine monk of Saint Meinrad Archabbey, who is well known for his work in the area of human development and formation for celibacy, was the conference presenter. The program included lectures as well as discussion among participants from different countries and Benedictine traditions.
The program included not only visits to important Benedictine sites such as Subiaco and Montecassino, but offered ample opportunity to visit other significant places associated with the Order and to experience Italy’s rich cultural and religious heritage.
The conference was a real testament to the vibrancy and joy of the Benedictine life and the Sant’Anselmo community was very impressed with the conviction and energy the Juniors bring to the Order. We will pray for them as they pursue the “good zeal” they so obviously displayed here.
