On the weekend of 2-6 February, Saint Joseph Abbey in Covington, Louisiana, USA, was pleased to welcome 35 participants to the 2018 North American Abbots’ Workshop.
Among those in attendance were Abbot Primate Gregory Polan and Priore Mauritius Wilde of Sant’Anselmo in Rome. The abbots resided in the newly-renovated Christian Life Center, a renovation made necessary by a flood at Saint Joseph’s in March 2016.
Br. John Mark Falkenhain, a Benedictine monk of Saint Meinrad in Indiana, who is well known for his work in the area of human development and formation for celibacy, was the workshop presenter. The program included lectures as well as discussion among participants.
One of the highlights of the workshop was the Sunday night supper with the monks of Saint Joseph’s featuring world-renowned New Orleans cuisine. The abbots dined in the monks’ refectory, which was dramatically painted by Dom Gregory de Wit, a monk of Mont Cesar in Belgium, in the 1950s.
