Benedictine monks in simple vows and their formation directors are invited to Sant’Anselmo for a period of reflection on the monastic vows, especially Conversatio Morum. Because of the importance of this program on formation for celibacy, and its interest not only for junior monks, but also their formation directors, we are opening this Congress to all those responsible for monastic formation in their monasteries.

Br. John Mark Falkenhain, a Benedictine Monk well known in the United States for his work in the area of human development and formation for celibacy will be our presenter. The program will include lectures, as well as discussion among participants coming from different counties and Benedictine traditions.

There are two ways to participate in this program. You may register for the Full Congress Program, which will run from June 22-July 6, 2017. Or, you may register only for the Celibacy Formation Conference (Half Congress Program), which will run from June 28-July 6 (and will include day trips to Subiaco and Montecassino).

The Full Congress Program will not only include visits to important Benedictine sites such as Subiaco and Montecassino, but will offer ample opportunity to visit other significant places associated with our order. Plans are indefinite about the possibility of a visit to Norcia because of the recent earthquakes. However, a full itinerary of visiting Italy’s rich cultural and religious heritage is planned for the Full Congress.

The International Benedictine Juniorate Congress will offer a unique formative experience for those new to the monastic way of life. Participants will gain perspectives on monastic vows, learn about the life of Saint Benedict and become aware about Benedictine life in various parts of the world. This program will be in English and translation will be provided as needed.
