Liturgy for Pastoral Care

The Pontifical Institute of Liturgy, in agreement with the Liturgical Office of the Vicariate of Rome, opens its doors to those who desire a solid basic liturgical formation by offering a liturgy course for pastoral care presented by the teachers of the Liturgical Institute.

– Educational structuring

Besides the traditional teaching, the possibility to participate in the course via web has been offered for some years. Each student can download the videos of the lessons online and receive the lecture notes by e-mail.

The course is triennial and cyclical (five meetings introducing students to theology, sacred scripture, ecclesiology, liturgy, and the history of the liturgy, repeated every year for new members, allows enrollment to start from any year).

The itinerary is specifically aimed at training pastoral workers in the liturgy of the Church, highlighting above all the theological and pastoral dimension, but also offering historical and biblical foundations.

No previous qualifications and competences are required to participate. The proposal is offered in a particular way to candidates for the diaconate and the established ministries, religious, members of the parish liturgical groups, extraordinary ministers of communion, those who exercise de facto ministry and the faithful who wish to deepen the liturgy.

The course develops over three years: each year ends with an examination – verification of the contents learned. At the end of the three-year period, the students are called to an overall check that attests to the ability to make a synthesis between the various teachings received. Passing the exams and the final examination entitles you to a certificate (which does not constitute an academic degree) issued by the Pontifical Institute of Sant’Anselmo and the Liturgical Office of the Vicariate.

The exam will usually take place in June at the Pontifical University of Sant’Anselmo. Students who do not want to take the exams are also admitted; they will be issued a certificate of participation.
