Proclaiming the Word of God in the Liturgy
To address the proper proclamation of the Word of God in the celebrations, the Liturgical Office organizes a practical training course for readers.
The ministry of the proclamation of the Word, so many years after the Council, is still not much appreciated and left to the good will of available faithful, with very varied results: some highlights of excellent reading, some medium to mediocre reading, and some discomforting cases of rough reading.
The liturgical reader, in addition to being a person who loves and knows the Word of God and translates it into a testimony of eloquent personal faith, must also know the lectionary, the criteria on which the Liturgy of the Word is organized, and the elements that compose it. The readers must also possess the practical skills, the techniques that allow them to give a public voice to a piece written in a context of liturgical proclamation, fundamentally different from the theatrical or journalistic one. Giving a voice to the Word that God addresses to his people, through the service of the minister: For such a high task, a specific basic preparation is required.
This formative course is offered to the faithful (men and women) who actually perform this service in the parish and religious communities, to the established ministers and the candidates, as well as to all the leaders of liturgical groups.
– Educational structure
The course, organized by the Pontifical Institute of Liturgy and the Liturgical Office of the Vicariate of Rome, is held at the Pontifical University Sant’Anselmo, Piazza dei Cavalieri di Malta, 5, Rome.
The possibility of participating in this course is also offered via the web. This modality has been designed especially for those who cannot attend in the classroom because of other commitments, for those who do not live in Rome, and for cloistered nuns. Each member will receive, via web, a user id and password, through which they will have access to a reserved page, on which they may view a video recording of the lesson. This is not a streaming link, which would constrain students to a specific time, but an audio-video file that you may download and watch when you have time, review several times and archive, watch in segments according to the availability of time … By email will be sent also some texts for personal study. Those who choose this mode will still be able to participate in classroom lessons (recommended especially for the practical part).
All participants will receive a certificate of participation.
