Pontifical Institute of Liturgy
The Institute was canonically established by the Apostolic See as a faculty of Sacred Liturgy of the Pontifical University of St. Anselm in order to promote liturgical science through research and teaching. As such it is empowered to grant, in the name of the Holy Father, the academic degrees of License and Doctorate in liturgy (Statutes 127).
Besides the roman rites we also focus on others forms of rituality derived from Christianity as well as Western and Oriental cultures. Any one field of study makes reference to several other disciplines, such as architecture, the liturgical arts, liturgical music as well as the human sciences, cultural anthropology, linguistics, etc.

The programme of studies considers the Eucharistic, the sacraments and sacramentals, the Liturgy of the Hours and the liturgical year under their theological, historical, spiritual and pastoral aspects.
The purpose of the Liturgical Institute, therefore, is to:
- To promote higher studies of the Liturgy (especially the Eucharist and the other sacraments, the Liturgy of the Hours and the Liturgical Year), in the theological, historical, spiritual and pastoral aspects (cf. Sacrosanctum Concilium [= SC] 16 and 23);
- Promoting the progress of liturgical studies through the scientific research of teachers and students (cf. SC 23);
- To prepare, through constant use of scientific methodology, future teachers of liturgical disciplines in universities, faculties, seminaries and religious houses (cf. SC 15);
- To prepare both experts who can be part of regional or diocesan liturgical commissions and animators in the liturgical-pastoral field, so that the people of God may obtain more abundant spiritual fruits from liturgical celebrations (cf. SC 44).
