March 25, 2026. We are pleased to announce a special online and hybrid lecture titled "Simone Weil: Dialectical Mysticism," featuring the world-renowned scholar Bernard McGinn. This event is a collaborative effort between the Pontificio Ateneo Sant'Anselmo and the University of Vienna.
About the Speaker
Bernard McGinn is the Professor Emeritus of Historical Theology and the History of Christianity at the University of Chicago Divinity School. Widely regarded as a leading authority on Western spirituality, his multivolume series, The Presence of God, has set international standards for the study of Christian mystical traditions.
The Subject:
Simone Weil (1909–1943) remains one of the most provocative and original thinkers of the 20th century. Known for her radical ethical commitments and her position at the threshold between Judaism and Christianity, her work continues to inspire philosophers, theologians, and artists alike. This lecture continues the critical reflections on "Mistica femminile" (Female Mysticism) initiated in November 2025.
The event is organized by the Chair for Christian Thought and Spiritual Practice and the Institute for Monastic Studies at Sant'Anselmo, in collaboration with the University of Vienna's "Religion and Transformation" research center.
