The Monastic Institute of Sant’Anselmo is delighted to introduce a Diploma in Monastic Studies in English, a program now available online starting October. This initiative, comprising 12 comprehensive courses, has been made possible through the collaboration of AIM and the Luzern Foundation, responding to the expressed interest from participants. The online format facilitates accessibility and flexibility for a broader audience. Here is an overview of the course titles:

  1. The presence of the Mystery of Christ throughout the Rule.
  2. The "spiritual science" of the Fathers and medieval monastic theology.
  3. The Psalms in the life of the monk.
  4. The monastic paideia and the formation of the monk.
  5. Introduction to the reading of the texts of the Greek Monastic Fathers.
  6. The 6th-century monasticism: Gaza and Montecassino as a synthesis of the monastic tradition.
  7. The meaning of the liturgy of the hours in the Rule and in the life of the monk.
  8. The great monastic models in history I.
  9. The great monastic models in history II.
  10. The Monastic Theology of Ildegarda, Gertrude, and Mechtildis.
  11. The Rule of St. Benedict, a doctrinal and spiritual study.
  12. Introduction to the reading of the Latin monastic Fathers.

Moreover, the program includes live online meetings featuring presentations on relevant topics, providing a valuable opportunity for participants to engage with the instructors. These sessions, offered free of charge and separate from the main curriculum, are recorded for future reference in a dedicated folder.
It's important to note that the Diploma has a flexible enrollment policy, allowing students to commence their studies at their convenience. The teachers diligently review and provide feedback on coursework throughout the year.
